The NYC Economic Development Corporation is implementing new requirements for helicopter operators to develop tools analyzing all flight activity over New York City for a more comprehensive picture. Previously, they only looked at complaints, which represent a small subset of flights.

  • Only 4% of complaints come from city-owned heliports, with 96% attributed to flights from other heliports
  • Only 1% of all flights are tourist helicopter tours
  • Operators will be required to develop tools analyzing all flight activity over NYC to make more informed decisions
  • This is a new requirement being added to the request for proposals (RFP) for heliport operators
  • Previously, only complaints were considered, not comprehensive flight data

And anything within within the RFP or what we're expecting to see from their plans regarding, like, transparency on their tail numbers or anything like that that goes through.
0:24:00
I know.
0:24:00
I'm sure you folks see the complaints from constituency or some of the websites that are utilized to track who's actually going or not following the rules per se and going over residential properties.
0:24:14
So is there any specifications listed there on what you'd expect to see from their plans?

So I'll ask Anton to answer the question more directly about The data that we're seeing around all helicopter flights in New York City, what I'll share at a very high level is that by looking at data for an approximately 1 year period from, let's say, spring of 2023 to the current period.
0:24:40
What we're finding is that overall, About 4% of the complaints are coming from the city owned teleports, meaning that 90% 96% of the complaints are attributed to flights originating from other teleports outside of of those that are city operated.
0:25:00
But I'll ask Anton to elaborate.
0:25:02
Sure.
Anton Fredriksson

Thank you.
0:25:05
And of that, 1% of all flights are tours from from the airport to backup, Jennifer's claim.
0:25:12
Separately wanted to address on the flight activity side, this is a new requirement that we're putting into our RFP.
0:25:18
So before we'd look at complaints, but that's a subset of all flat activity happening.
0:25:22
So as part of the new RFP, the operator would be to develop a tool that'll analyze all flight flight activity over New York City.
0:25:31
So we have a better more complete pick sure of all the activity and can make more informed decisions from that.
