Chief Fire Marshal Flynn explains the department's efforts to track and inspect businesses selling lithium-ion batteries and mobility devices. He discusses the challenges and procedures involved in this process.

  • The department maintains a list of inspected businesses selling lithium-ion batteries and mobility devices
  • The list is dynamic due to the transient nature of these businesses
  • They rely on public reporting to identify new businesses
  • Inspections are conducted regularly, with a focus on commercial establishments
  • The department responds to complaints about common areas in buildings within 12 hours
  • Businesses identified as 'bad actors' are subject to more frequent inspections

I just wanna go back to Lithium Ion batteries for a second.
1:15:22
So does FDMI or DCWP have a listing of old commercial establishments that sell mobility devices and or Lithium Ion batteries worries?
Daniel Flynn
1:15:32
We do have a a list of places business that we've inspected.
1:15:36
Every every business that we have become aware of, we have inspected.
1:15:40
So the list we do have a list, and I can supply that with the council if you would like.
1:15:45
Of all locations that are known to us.
1:15:47
But these are very transient businesses.
1:15:50
People may open 1.
1:15:51
We conduct enforcement.
1:15:53
They may move down the block.
1:15:54
So that's why we really rely on the public's help to let us know where these these are, where they're popping up in their in their areas.
1:16:01
And again, if they have any concerns, let us know, and we'll get out there and take a look.
1:16:06
A lot of times, we get complaints, and they're just selling regular pedal bikes, but we wanna get out there and and know where they are.
1:16:12
We do have a list, and I can supply you that list.
Joann Ariola
1:16:14
That that's great.
1:16:15
I would I would really appreciate that.
1:16:16
And is there a standard for inspection schedules, or is it just upon notification?
Daniel Flynn
1:16:23
We well, these are mostly commercial pretty much all commercial because that's really only areas that we can actually get entry into that have or require to provide us access to the commercial establishments.
1:16:36
So majority of them are commercial.
1:16:39
We do get complaints from time to time about concerns in common areas of buildings.
1:16:43
Which we also have the jurisdiction to inspect.
1:16:46
So we get out there as well and inspect those within 12 hours.
Joann Ariola
1:16:50
And also on the commercials, on the commercial businesses, do you have do you go regularly, you know, there are regular cycle for what you know on your list as bad actors that you continually visit.
Daniel Flynn
1:17:03
Yes.
1:17:04
You know, we re inspect we re inspect regularly, every business.
Joann Ariola
1:17:08
Okay.
1:17:08
I'd like to Note that council member Oswald Elise has joined us.
1:17:13
Thank you.
1:17:14
I'll let you settle in.
1:17:15
In case you have any questions, just let me know.
1:17:19
Alright.
1:17:23
For now, that's the questions that I have.
1:17:25
So I think maybe we can take a 2 minute break just before our demonstration.
