Council Member Stevens inquires about the Fair Futures program, its recent increase in utilization, and its eligibility for unaccompanied immigrant youth. Stephanie Gendell provides information on the program's scope and recent changes.

  • Fair Futures provides coaching and tutoring services for youth in foster care aged 11 to 26.
  • The program has seen an increase in utilization, partly due to extending the age limit from 21 to 26.
  • Unaccompanied or immigrant youth in foster care are eligible to participate in Fair Futures.
  • ACS is developing training for coaches on immigration issues to ensure proper identification and support for immigrant youth's needs.

The number of new receiving Fair Fair Services increased from 3932 in fiscal 2023 to 4415 in fiscal 2024.
2:59:11
This represents a 5% increase in utilization.
2:59:14
Our other company immigrant use eligible for Fair Fair Services, if so, how many are currently enrolled?
Stephanie Gendell
2:59:20
I think you mean Fair Futures.
2:59:21
Yeah.
2:59:22
Although Fair Futures is a great program.
Althea Stevens
2:59:23
Fair Futures.
2:59:24
Sorry.
Stephanie Gendell
2:59:25
No problem.
2:59:26
But we don't administer Fair Futures.
2:59:28
So all youth in foster care age 11 to up to 26, although they wouldn't still be in foster care are eligible to participate in fair futures, which is largely coaching and tutoring services.
2:59:41
Part of the reason you're seeing the number go up is because we increased the age from 21, 24, 26, and so young people enrolled are staying in the program longer, which is great.
2:59:52
And so you're starting to see the number go up.
2:59:56
Young people who are unaccompanied or immigrant youth are eligible to participate.
3:00:03
We are actually in the process of putting together a training for the coaches on immigration so that If for some reason a foster care agency didn't identify that the young person had immigration needs, but the coach did, we can make sure we get those young people help.
3:00:19
But otherwise, they're eligible like any other young
