Jason Stahl, a renter from Sunnyside Gardens, Queens, urges the city council to approve the City of Yes Proposal in its entirety. He argues that adding more housing units everywhere is beneficial, even for low-density neighborhoods, and supports removing minimum parking requirements.

  • Stahl emphasizes the importance of housing variety to accommodate changing needs throughout life.
  • He notes that removing parking minimums doesn't ban parking but allows flexibility.
  • Stahl challenges the idea that Community Boards represent the community, pointing out they are appointed, not elected bodies.

10:25:20
My name is Jason Stall.
10:25:22
I live in Sunnyside Gardens, Queens.
10:25:24
I am a renter in a market rate apartment, and I am urging the city council to approved the city of Yes Proposal in its entirety.
10:25:37
I have 0 love for Debbie Adams Administration, but a broken clock is right at least twice a day.
10:25:44
And I think that adding more more units.
10:25:48
Everywhere is, you know, is good even for folks who live in in low density neighborhoods.
10:25:55
You know?
10:25:56
Single family houses are are good for for what you need at a specific point in time.
10:26:01
But you know, I think for anyone who wants to, you know, live in their neighborhood for their for their entire life, once housing has changed, and I think having a variety of of housing options as you, you know, proceed and, you know, the life curve have been really curved.
10:26:20
It's it's beneficial for them too.
10:26:23
And just a a note kind of about parking requirements and minimum parking, I think it's good to remove that.
10:26:31
It's not the same that it's saying parking is banned forever.
10:26:35
It just gives the option to have less if it's not if it's not one.
10:26:40
And I think in transit deserts, I think there'll be plenty of parking in Indian Developments.
10:26:47
And then the last point I just want to make because I think a lot of folks have talked about Community Board approvals or lack thereof.
10:26:55
I think it's important to note that Community Boards are not elected legislative bodies or elect or elective bodies of any sort.
10:27:03
They are appointed by by the representatives after an an approved after an application process.
10:27:11
So the idea that they are representing the community.
