Lindsay Lamb, representing the Prospect Park South Association, testifies against the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity proposal, emphasizing that a one-size-fits-all approach to rezoning is inappropriate for New York City's diverse neighborhoods. She expresses particular concern about transit-oriented development and its potential for gentrification and displacement.

  • Argues that the proposal is primarily beneficial to developers rather than addressing housing affordability
  • Points out that transit-oriented development has been linked to gentrification and displacement of low-income families in other cities
  • Suggests that different neighborhoods have different needs, particularly in terms of parking requirements

Hey.
13:41:12
I'll try to make this cut because Hi, Golly.
13:41:15
It's late.
13:41:17
Yeah.
13:41:18
I don't know how you guys are doing it.
13:41:19
I keep getting on and off.
13:41:21
But really quickly, I'm Liz Lam.
13:41:23
I'm from Prospect Park South, and I'm from the Prospect Park South Association.
13:41:27
I had a full testimony based on trained in oriented development, but realistically, when I've been listening to other people talk, what this has really made me realize is one size doesn't fit all when it comes to rebounding.
13:41:39
And one size never really fits all.
13:41:41
I'm 52.
13:41:43
So everything one size is really too big.
13:41:46
This was particularly highlighted with all of the parking arguments.
13:41:52
Parking is great in some places, not great in others.
13:41:54
Personally, my biggest concern is the transit oriented development.
13:41:59
Historically, DOD initiatives have been linked to gentrification and displacing Low Income families and longstanding community members.
13:42:07
We've seen this in Austin.
13:42:08
We've seen it in Minneapolis.
13:42:10
We've seen it in every case that people have talked about transit oriented development.
13:42:14
While there is an argument that supply increases while supply increases, it reduces rents.
13:42:24
Realistically, this is just a land grab for developers.
13:42:27
It's by developers for developers.
13:42:29
And, you know, really just stop there and give you your time back because I think it's way too late for us to keep going, but I think one size fits all is not a good plan for anyone.
Kevin C. Riley
13:42:41
Thank you, Lindsey.
13:42:43
Next, we're gonna Thanks.
Lindsay Lamb
13:42:45
I'll be up.
