James (JP) Freeley testifies against the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity proposal, urging the council to "just say no." He emphasizes the severe shortage of affordable housing in New York City, citing statistics from the 2023 New York City Housing Vacancy Survey and ANHD.
- 703,000 rent-burdened households in NYC need housing for less than $1,100 per month
- Only 23,100 such units are currently available
- Freeley argues that the City of Yes proposal fails to address this massive affordable housing gap

To quote Nancy Reagan just say no.

Okay.
James (JP) Freeley
13:39:57
So according to the to the 2023 New York City Housing Vacancy Survey, as well as ANHD, there are over 700 1000 rent burdened New Yorkers that need affordable housing of less than $1100 a month.
13:40:20
That's just an absurd number and City ofBS housing opportunity is not even to get there.
13:40:26
I'll say it again, 703,000 rent burden households.
13:40:31
Households need units for less than 1100 a month.
13:40:36
Currently, according to the housing and vacancy survey, there are only 23100 available.
13:40:44
So you've gotta get somewhat you've gotta figure out how to get from 23100 under $1100 a month to 700,000, under a 100 $1100 a month.
13:40:55
And that's not my numbers.
13:40:56
That's according to the housing vacancy survey and ADHD and such.
13:41:01
It's all available online.
13:41:03
Just say no.
13:41:05
Have a good night.
