Hello, everybody.
9:00:15
I live in the wonderful and vibrant neighborhood of Park Slope, a place I'm lucky to call home.
9:00:20
There's been a lot of discussion on the preservation of character in the community.
9:00:24
And this is why I urge the council to vote yes in favor of city of yes.
9:00:29
I've been lucky to meet and make friends within Park Slope and many of whom have worked and lived in this neighborhood for 10, 15, 20 years.
9:00:39
However, they can no longer afford to live here and have had to make the difficult decision to move far away and make it no longer tenable to commute in and work in this neighborhood.
9:00:49
This is leads to a loss of community, a loss of people who are pillars to park slow.
9:00:54
Despite what others have said, we have a current vacancy rate of 1.4%, which is dire.
9:01:00
City of yes will result in permanent affordable housing in this high cost neighborhood.
9:01:05
This is a step in the correct rate direction of preserving and allowing community members of Park Slope to stay here.
9:01:11
The community of Park Slope is not just wealthy homeowners, but the working class people who are the vibrant members who are serving you coffee, making you fancy drinks, and cutting your delicious meats.
9:01:23
They should be allowed and encouraged to stay here in this neighborhood.
9:01:27
I encourage the council to listen to the many, many people who have voice support and excitement for this proposal.
9:01:34
The people in New York overwhelmingly support city of yes, over 80% of residents.
9:01:38
We have the literal polling data for this.
9:01:41
We urge the council to pass it in full.
9:01:44
Thank you.
