Key accomplishments of the AI Action Plan

The testimony highlights that OTI has exceeded its initial goals, initiating or completing 31 of the 37 proposed actions in the AI Action Plan. Key accomplishments include:
- Publication of foundational policy documents on AI principles and generative AI use guidance
- Expansion of publicly available information about city AI tools
- Convening public listening sessions and planning future public engagement
- Establishment of an AI steering committee with leaders from 16 agencies
- Creation of an AI advisory network of experts from academia, civic society, and industry
- Engagement with various levels of government on AI governance challenges

I'm pleased to say that we exceeded that goal having initiated or completed 31 of the 37 actions as described in the AI action plan.

Our annual progress report released earlier this month provides more details on our on our success, including the publication of 2 foundational policy documents, AI principles and definitions, and generative AI preliminary use guidance to create common language around key terms in the city's values and approaches to using AI tools.

The expansion of publicly available information about the city's AI tools, including through NYC Open Data, to encourage transparency and or trust, convening several public listening sessions with New Yorkers to hear about AI priorities and planning for future public engagement, the establishment of an AI steering committee with leaders from 16 agencies who meet quarterly to discuss the unique opportunities and challenges of AI and government, the establishment of an AI advisory network of AI experts in academia, civic society, and industry, who support the city in the responsible use of AI technologies, and conducting numerous conversations with local, state, federal, and international government bodies to share successes and challenges in AI governance.
