  • The Department of Finance flags repeat offenders in their system
  • Investigations deemed as fraud are referred to the District Attorney's office

Thank you, chairs.
1:33:06
Thank you for having this hearing.
1:33:11
I wanted to ask and I don't know if it was asked already, but you you do send, people that are that are flagged for maybe, potential deed, fraud activity to the sheriff's office or whoever you send it to, do you keep, track of how many kind of frequent flyers you have on that list?
Colette McCain-Jacques
1:33:32
Yes.
1:33:33
Well, we keep track of how many we refer to the sheriff's office.
1:33:37
Okay.
1:33:38
And, the sheriff also keeps tracks, keeps track of everybody that walks into their office and complain about defraud.
UNKNOWN
1:33:47
And how many
Colette McCain-Jacques
1:33:48
And it's in our, notice of recorded document annual report that we sent to city council by November 15th each year.
Sandy Nurse
1:33:56
Okay.
1:33:57
And just what's how many frequent flyers do you have on that list?
1:34:01
So, for 2023,
Colette McCain-Jacques
1:34:04
2024, we had 46 referrals that was sent to the sheriff's office, and the sheriff had 80 complaints.
Sandy Nurse
1:34:15
And these were people who've been referred more than once?
Colette McCain-Jacques
1:34:19
I don't have that information.
1:34:21
Yeah.
Sandy Nurse
1:34:21
I was just trying to understand, like, how many how many chronic how many people are repeatedly engaged in this activity that you're flagging?
1:34:28
I think that would be I'm sorry if that was asked already, but it would be helpful to know.
Colette McCain-Jacques
1:34:32
No.
1:34:32
It, I have to go back and get those numbers for you if they were repeat offenders.
Sandy Nurse
1:34:40
Yeah.
1:34:41
I think I think that would be helpful to know and, you know, it'd be nice to see their faces.
1:34:45
Like, maybe we should put their faces on some material, so that they come to the door the way we we do with everybody else who's doing crime.
Colette McCain-Jacques
1:34:54
So one of the things with the red flag, we do flag people that continue to do this so that we know when a document comes through and it has their name on it, we do not accept it.
1:35:07
Alright.
Crystal Hudson
1:35:07
But can I just follow-up there?
