Council Member Ossé proposes creating a city-level reporting mechanism for predatory solicitations, similar to what exists at the state level. He suggests implementing an online portal where constituents can upload potentially fraudulent documents for review.

  • The Department of Finance representatives initially respond with 'we can look into it'
  • Ossé expresses frustration with the lack of immediate commitment, emphasizing the urgency of the issue
  • He stresses the need for a streamlined process to collect data on fraudulent solicitations and work with state authorities to hold perpetrators accountable

I know that, we hear a lot from our state colleagues about, like, reporting different fraudulent phone numbers or pieces of mail.

Is there any reporting mechanism that exists through the city where, constituents of mine can report, predatory solicitation?
Colette McCain-Jacques

Do you guys have any of that?
Chi A. Ossé

Nothing?
0:59:59

I think creating a form on a website, embedding it onto your website where folks can upload through PDF, through scan, different mail that they're receiving that they deem to be fraudulent and having the department look through that specific mail that goes through that portal, I think could be a great first step in terms of identifying some of these problems.
1:00:26
What do you think about that?
Colette McCain-Jacques
1:00:30
Yeah.
1:00:30
We can look into it.
Chi A. Ossé
1:00:32
I I know.
1:00:32
The look into it is, like, I'm I'm just saying respectfully, like, people's I like, I'm sorry, chairs.
1:00:40
Like, I like, people were doing this to my grandmother, like, when she had a stroke, like, back to back.
1:00:46
Like, the look into it is, like, it's not working and this has been happening for for some time.
1:00:52
Like, some definitive, like, it's it should not be hard for a city agency to, you know, reach out to your IT department, create a portal where you're accepting, you know, input data from from people that are receiving this mail and look through it on what's fraudulent and what what's what's why can't we commit to doing that?
