Council Member Abreu inquires about DSNY's plans for enforcement after the warning period, particularly for large buildings.
- Enforcement will be based on analysis of waste set out at the curb
- DSNY acknowledges that larger buildings are often the main offenders
- The department plans to target work in high-density areas of the city
- Enforcement approach will be similar to that used for other recyclable materials

If you can get us that information Sure.
1:46:24
We can.
1:46:25
That would be great.
1:46:25
And I hope the numbers are high, because we want, buildings to be compliant.
1:46:29
And if they are low, let's start enforcing, because this is something that we need to make sure that we're diverting from the landfill.
1:46:36
And and, again, for the reasons I mentioned Completely agree.
1:46:42
What is the plan for robust enforcement after the warning period?
1:46:46
Hey.
1:46:46
How does the SNY plan to engage large buildings in particular, which we've seen to be the slowest to come online?
Joshua Goodman
1:46:53
Yeah.
1:46:54
It's functionally the same as our enforcement about failure to separate recyclables, which means it's based on an analysis of what's out at the curb.
1:47:01
We also know from 20 years of enforcing about recycling violations that the bigger buildings are often the offenders on this, and certainly, we plan to target our work in the highest density parts of the city.
