Council Member Hanif inquires about gaps identified in the current sex education curriculum and efforts to address them. DOE representatives highlight several areas where improvements are being made or needed.
- Human trafficking is an area where more lesson materials are needed in the high school curriculum.
- At the elementary level, more resources on consent and healthy relationships have been recently developed.
- Other health curriculum gaps, such as lessons on fentanyl, are being addressed to keep up with emerging issues.

I think that one one thing was what, what chair Lewis brought up earlier around human trafficking.

So we have, that's one thing that comes to mind where it's in our scope and sequence.

That is an expectation that schools do address in the high school curriculum, but, we could use more lesson materials, around it.

And so I think, you know, that that's that's one area that I think we could we would love more lesson materials.

We've recently been working at the elementary level to get more resources on, consent and healthy relationships, so that that was a gap area that we've been really working to fill, with the help of various partner organizations, like, hip hop public health and and others.

And so those are 2 that just come to the top of my mind right now.

I would say, you know, throughout the whole health curriculum there's other gaps, not just in sexual health, that we're working on, like lessons on Fentanyl, you know, other sort of emerging, issues that are are sort of new enough that there aren't established curricula about.

So, yeah, I would say throughout the whole health curriculum, there's there's definitely some gaps that we're sort of always working on a review process to find new materials.
