Council Member Rivera inquires about education and resources provided for copyright, licensing, and intellectual property protection, especially for emerging artists. Commissioner Cumbo discusses available resources.

  • DCLA itself doesn't provide these resources, but other agencies like the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment (MOM) do
  • MOM offers various programs related to the creative workforce, including training for TV and film industry roles
  • Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts is mentioned as a valuable resource for artists needing legal support

Our agency specifically does not, but MOM does provide that type of education and internship opportunities.
0:48:21
I would definitely look into MOM.
0:48:25
Hopefully they can join us the next time we participate in this because the mayor's office have had they have a number of programs dedicated to pathways into the city's creative workforce.
0:48:37
I'll just read off some of them.

Their made in New York PA training program prepares New York City residents ages 18 and up for entry level positions in the TV and film industry.

MOM's post production training program made in NY animation project media MKRS programs provide additional career support for people working across the city's creative sectors.
0:49:32
MOM works with the Department of Small Business Services and Brooklyn Workforce Innovations to run these successful programs.
0:49:39
And so that that's just one of the major programs that they do.
0:49:44
But I'd also like to suggest for many young people, I went through or worked with them with volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, which was an incredible program that helped me when I was founding, the Museum of Contemporary African Diaspora and Arts.
0:49:59
They helped in tremendous ways in terms of, providing that level of support.
0:50:05
And they do have internship opportunities there as well.
