Council Member Linda Lee emphasizes the crucial role of community partnerships, particularly with religious institutions, in addressing the opioid crisis. She highlights the challenges of discussing substance abuse in certain communities due to cultural taboos.

  • Recognition of religious institutions as key partners in reaching communities where substance abuse is often stigmatized
  • Acknowledgment of the diversity within broad racial categories and the need for targeted outreach
  • Question raised about whether the right community partners are being engaged to reach hard-to-reach communities

Yeah.

And this is where I think the community partnerships are super important, including what you touched upon, which is the religious institutions.
1:37:48
Because I've had a lot of, for example, folks in various different religious groups across the city say, listen, this is so taboo in our community, and so we can't even talk about it in our communities.
1:38:02
But we know that our kids are struggling with this, and it's happening.
1:38:05
So I think they really are, struggling with this.
1:38:09
And I'm just wondering because, obviously, when we say black or when we say Asian, there's such a diverse group in that, and there's a lot of languages spoken.
1:38:19
So is it that we're not hitting up the right community partners in that that sort of have these reaches into the hard to reach communities?
1:38:27
Or what is do you have a sense of what that is,

what the issue is?

Thanks.
