Council Member Yusef Salaam inquires about issues and privacy concerns related to NYPD's augmented reality tools. David Siffert from S.T.O.P. responds, explaining the tool's function and potential privacy risks.
- Augmented reality tool described as primarily a data visualization method
- Potential concerns include recording of camera footage and access to mass amounts of data
- Focus should be on what data is collected and how it's aggregated, rather than just visualization

I'd like to ask about augmented reality.
3:03:59
What issues do you see related to this tool?
3:04:03
Do you have any privacy concerns?

I'm certainly not an expert in NYPD's augmented reality tool.
3:04:15
My understanding of the tool is it's basically a data visualization method as opposed to any additional data or additional data analysis.
3:04:26
Now there are still potential concerns.
3:04:29
For example, if NYPD is holding up a camera in order to access certain data, you could imagine that what is seen on that camera might be recorded or used in certain ways.
3:04:40
You could also imagine that simply being able to access mass amounts of data in certain ways could present privacy risks.
3:04:48
I think we've seen that with the way the domain awareness system aggregates data in specific ways that can be dangerous.
3:04:53
But to me I think the focus shouldn't be so much on how it's visualized, but more on what is collected and how it's aggregated.
