Council Member Julie Won criticizes the current shelter scorecard for its inadequacy in reflecting food quality issues in shelters.

  • The scorecard primarily focuses on inspections by DOB, HPD, FDNY, and DOHMH
  • Food quality is not explicitly addressed in the current scorecard
  • Julie Won emphasizes the need for aggregated data on food quality across shelter sites and vendors
  • Calls for a more comprehensive evaluation system that includes food quality metrics

Okay so this is a scorecard that DHS has and if you look at the first left column, the widest one that is just the name of the shelter site And what we'll see is the green second column is an inspection report of DOB, and then the second blue column is HPD.
1:06:19
Third column is FDNY.
1:06:21
The last column is DOHMH, in which we're supposed to presume that that is supposed to be a score that we can look at for mental hygiene, hygiene, and potentially also food.
1:06:33
This scorecard completely omits or erases the importance of food quality in these shelter sites, and we also need to be able to aggregate the data across the city for feedback from these surveys of each vendor.
1:06:50
I also have a follow-up question about microbial testing by DOHMH and prescribed period of time for all meals.
1:06:57
How is it that somebody like Regina's Caterers, like I brought last time, thanks to my shelter residence, how does the food expire in 2030 from the year 2023?
1:07:09
What are we doing about the expiration dates as well as the chemicals and preservatives being used in these shelter foods?
1:07:15
What is the food quality control for that?
