Commissioner, I wanna just firstly state, as I think I've said at other hearings, I appreciate that when you come here, you do your best to answer questions.

Don't always agree with the policies of the Department of Correction, but I can't say that about every commissioner in this administration, and so I appreciate that you make an effort to engage with us in a forthright manner.

That being said, I am deeply concerned about the dramatic increase of number of people who are incarcerated in New York City during the Adams administration.

You know, there aren't many things that you can say unite the Giuliani, Bloomberg and de Blasio administrations, but in each and every one of them we saw public safety improve and the population at the Department of Correction decline.

Unfortunately in this administration we've seen a 27% increase in the number of people who are incarcerated.

1,500 more people are sleeping in the hellhole that is Rikers Island tonight than the day that Eric Adams came into office.

And crime has gone up in New York City.

So both things have moved in the wrong direction in this administration.
