it up next time.
1:05:51
With them.
1:05:52
And I know Amanda's giving me sadness, so I have another question and I'll I'll ask again when I take over as chair.
1:05:58
But electronic monitoring, we're hearing that we only have about like 90 youth citywide right now but there's at least a hundred more slots that could be used.
1:06:08
Do we have a reason on why this isn't being a mechanism because as we know the numbers in the juvenile detention are consistently increasing and for me it's always thinking about how do we get these young people home.
Juanita Holmes
1:06:20
I agree.
1:06:22
So, you know, I actually am asking for funding for electronic monitoring unit.
1:06:27
Right?
1:06:28
I believe in it.
1:06:29
Not only to assist the young people that are being remanded, we have some young people that maybe they're not reoffending but mom is calling saying they're not staying home, they're leaving 10:00 at night, they're coming back four in the morning.
1:06:41
We can't logistically monitor them and and naturally we don't have enough people to do it.
1:06:46
But if we create a unit where it's twenty four seven, very similar to what was in place during COVID, we already have the procedure, we already have if the monitors goes down, we go out and simply replace it and then send it for repair.
1:07:00
You are absolutely right.
1:07:02
It is doable.
1:07:03
It can be done and it's something that needs to be done.
1:07:06
We currently
Althea Stevens
1:07:06
have So what do you need to get it done and how do we work to get it done?
Juanita Holmes
1:07:09
Money and just and just people.
1:07:11
I really am going to be asking
Althea Stevens
1:07:13
So this is a new need we're asking for?
Juanita Holmes
1:07:15
So, yes.
1:07:15
It's it's a need, right, because probation
Althea Stevens
1:07:17
Are asking MOB for the new need?
Juanita Holmes
1:07:20
Yes.
1:07:20
It is a new need.
Althea Stevens
1:07:21
Okay.
1:07:22
Just wanna make sure that I'm
Juanita Holmes
1:07:25
like It been requested as a new need.
1:07:28
It is definitely something I think would assist in helping moms and and parents out, you know, as far as curfews because let's face it, we work to a certain time.
1:07:37
They the minute we leave, then they may leave.
1:07:39
Right?
1:07:40
And not and just not listening.
Althea Stevens
1:07:41
But Do you but do you know why it's it's it's down?
1:07:44
Because what I'm hearing is it's it's about nine only 90 young people citywide and they're and they were told that there's at least another hundred slots.
1:07:51
So do you know if it's not the judges are not recommending you guys are saying you don't have the capacity.
1:07:56
Do you know what the the discrepancy is?
