Deputy Commissioner Nell McCarty explains the reasons behind the decrease in group programming sessions as reported in the PMMR. She also highlights recent improvements in programming numbers.
- There was a 4% decrease in group programming sessions from the previous year
- The largest attrition occurred in the first quarter of fiscal year 2024, causing a significant drop
- Staffing has since increased, leading to a recovery in group programming numbers
- The first quarter of fiscal year 2025 shows a 44% increase in group programming compared to the same period last year
- The department is working to stabilize services and reduce fluctuations in programming availability

Could you explain decrease in the group programming sessions?
Nell McCarty
3:40:22
Yes.
3:40:23
So that number was about 4% of a decrease.
3:40:27
And part of that was because for the first quarter of fiscal year 'twenty four is when we experienced the largest attrition.
3:40:35
And you notice that in the PMMR that was established for fiscal year twenty twenty four where it was quite drastic, the decrease in group programming.
3:40:44
So we spent the remainder of fiscal year twenty twenty four increasing our staffing to increase the level of group programs, which resulted in that 4% reduction in group programs.
3:40:55
What I would like to highlight, though, is that what we have seen in the PMMR so the first quarter of fiscal year 'twenty five is a 44% increase of group programming compared to last year's same time.
3:41:07
And so what that says to me is that we are starting to stabilize our services, trying to get back to that less fluctuation, seeing less of a difference between our group programs that have been in sourced by our department's counseling services unit.
