- NYC public schools receive about $2.3 billion in federal funding annually
- The largest funding streams include Title I ($700 million), school food program ($500 million), and funding from HHS for Medicaid and early childhood programs
- Vadehra emphasizes that any cuts would be extremely disruptive, especially for vulnerable student populations
- The difficulty in predicting which funding streams are at greatest risk due to unclear federal actions is discussed

Clearly cuts in education funding either from the Trump administration or this upcoming federal budget would be detrimental to New York City Public Schools and services.

Has New York City Public Schools have any internal analysis or collaborated with OMB on any analysis on which areas of the New York City Public School budget would be the most vulnerable or which services would be most impacted given possible cuts?

So we get about $2,300,000,000 in federal funding each year this year.
0:29:54
A bit over $1,000,000,000 of that is from the US Department of Education.
0:29:58
The other chunks are our school food program, which is from the USDA, which is over $500,000,000 and then funding from HHS for Medicaid and for our early childhood program.
0:30:12
So that's the full suite of what we get.
0:30:14
The single largest funding stream in there is Title which is about $700,000,000 then school food, and it goes down from there.
0:30:23
We are in ongoing any of these programs being cut would mean would be extremely disruptive to our schools.
0:30:30
Course, we are lucky in that federal funding is not our largest funding source.
0:30:33
City funding is by far our largest funding source, but it obviously would be critical.
0:30:38
And those funds, as you know, are usually dedicated for our most vulnerable students, our low income students, our students with disabilities, our students in temporary housing.
0:30:47
So we are watching closely.
0:30:49
It's truthfully hard to know which of those funding streams is at greatest risk because it's very unclear what is happening.
0:30:56
Those large funding streams have not been impacted yet.
0:31:00
The Republican budget bill does take a swing potentially at Medicaid, which would be a very big deal.
0:31:05
But right now, we're just keeping an eye on all of it.
0:31:07
It's hard to tell where they'll actually act.
