Council Member Rita Joseph inquires about spending on due process cases (Carter cases, Connors cases, and direct service needs) and the progress in reducing claims. Liz Vladek, General Counsel for DOE, responds.
- Fiscal Year 2025 budget includes $1.08 billion for Carter cases
- DOE is still paying claims for prior service years
- Progress has been made in reducing the number of due process claim filings by about 20% year-over-year
- This is the first year in about ten years without a dramatic increase in claims

So spending on due process cases such as Carter cases, Conner cases, and direct service need has continued to grow with funding added for these costs and each plan fiscal twenty twenty five budget now include 1,080,000,000.00 for CARTA cases and only a hundred million less than fiscal twenty twenty four, actual spending of $1,190,000,000.

4:18:41
I'm very pleased that we've been able to reduce the number of filings of due process claims, so that covers both the Carter's and the IESP cases.
4:18:52
We've been able to reduce that number by about 20% so far this year year over year.
4:18:59
It's the first year that obviously the year's not over, anything could happen, but it's the first year in I think ten years that we're not seeing a dramatic increase in the number of
