Liz Vladek, General Counsel for DOE, provides information about the timeline of open cases and the statute of limitations for due process claims.
- Only a couple dozen cases still open that are more than three years old
- Families have a two-year statute of limitations to file claims
- Current open cases might apply to services from a few years ago
- DOE has dramatically improved its speed in closing cases, reducing the backlog of older cases

I looked at this recently and I think that we're under a couple dozen cases that are still open, unresolved, that go back more than three years.

4:19:35
Families have a two year statute of limitations.
4:19:38
They can file a case now for a claim they have from a few years ago.
4:19:43
Cases that we have open now might apply to a few years ago.

So in terms of cases that are closed, our speed at getting these cases closed has dramatically improved and so we're closing that gap of having sort of an older backlog there.
