Council Member Rita Joseph asks about increasing physical education (PE) in schools. Joe Titus from HiveClass responds with strategies to improve PE participation.

  • Offering choice and personalization in PE activities
  • Providing access to a wide range of activities
  • Utilizing technology for remote PE options
  • Supporting PE teachers rather than replacing them
  • Addressing high student-teacher ratios in PE classes

And how do we get more PE into our schools?
Joe Titus
9:42:32
We offer choice.
9:42:34
We personalize it, and we give kids access to everything and anything that they want.
9:42:40
And so if kids can have a personal experience with it, I think that will get them to wanna go to class.
9:42:48
And now in the world we live in where most schools in New York City are on a one to one basis, the kids who don't feel comfortable maybe changing can do remote work at home if you give them the instruction.
9:43:03
By no means are we replacing teachers.
9:43:05
What we're trying to do is support PE teachers.
9:43:08
The student teacher ratio is high in the physical education classroom.
9:43:11
Yeah.
