Council Member Marmorato inquires about potential vehicle shortages in the FDNY, similar to issues faced by the NYPD. Commissioner Tucker discusses the department's fleet situation and needs.

  • FDNY has a large fleet but could use more vehicles in certain areas, particularly in EMS
  • The department has over 200 mechanics to maintain the fleet
  • 24/7 operations create significant wear and tear on vehicles
  • While there's a pipeline for purchasing firefighting apparatus, other aspects of the fleet could use expansion

0:41:23
Now we know that the NYPD has a lack of cars for patrol and staff officers to use them.

Robert Tucker
0:41:36
You know, we we have a big fleet, no doubt.
0:41:41
We we certainly there are areas where we could use more cars.
0:41:47
Absolutely.
0:41:49
In EMS in particular.
0:41:52
The demands on our fleet are high.
0:41:58
We do have over 200 mechanics, But nevertheless riding around 20 fourseven in this city creates a lot of wear and tear on our fleet.
0:42:13
And so we could always, while we have a pipeline that exists currently of apparatus that we buy and the city has a schedule that they've provided us of when and how we purchase firefighting apparatus, other aspects of our fleet we could always use more.
