Council Member Marmorato inquires about the life expectancy and costs of fire trucks and ladders. Deputy Commissioner Christoff provides detailed information on vehicle lifecycles and current fleet status.

  • Pumpers are replaced before 12 years of age, ladders before 11 years
  • Current average ages: pumpers (6.5 years), 75-foot tower ladders (6.5 years), 95-foot ladders (9+ years), TDAs (10+ years), rear mount ladders (8+ years)
  • Replacement cycles are mandated by the UFOA contract

And what is the life expectancy for a truck or a ladder and kind of like a ballpark number for a cost?
Robert Tucker
0:42:50
Commissioner Kristoff has those numbers and she's going to give them to you with the average age of our engines, our pumpers, our ladder companies.
0:42:58
We have several different ladder companies, some rear tiller.
0:43:02
Commissioner Kristoff will give you all that.
Lizette Christoff
0:43:05
Sure.
0:43:06
So for fire apparatus, the life cycle for those is actually part of the UFOA contract.
0:43:13
So we replace the vehicles used by engine companies, pumpers, before they turn 12 years old, and we replace ladders before they turn 11 years old.
0:43:26
Right now, the average age of our pumpers is a little little less than six and a half years.
0:43:33
We have a couple different kinds of ladders as the commissioner was referring to.
0:43:36
So our 75 foot tower ladders average age is about six and a half years.
0:43:41
90 five foot ladders, a little over nine years.
0:43:45
For TDAs, it's a little over ten years, and for rear mount ladders, a little over eight years.
0:43:51
Okay.
0:43:51
So when it comes
Kristy Marmorato

to their life expectancy or end of life, will you have the money saved up to purchase new and when you do purchase new do you purchase like a whole fleet?
