The Parks Department is receiving dedicated funding and implementing new strategies to address rat mitigation in parks and street tree beds.

  • $1 million in new funding is allocated specifically for rat mitigation in street tree beds.
  • New parks trash receptacles designed for pizza boxes have been introduced to limit food available to rodents.
  • A $2 million investment was made to containerize curbside trash collection with over 9,000 lockable street trash bins.
  • These efforts are part of the administration's broader initiative to clean up the city and reduce the presence of rodents.

This is another important step forward in this administration's effort to clean up the city and reduce the presence of rodents alongside the unveiling of creative new parks trash receptacles designed specifically for pizza boxes, limiting the food available to rodents as well as a $2,000,000 investment last November which will allow our agency to containerize our curbside trash trash collection with over 9,000 lockable street trash bins.
