Council Member Salamanca discusses the issue of illegal dumping in his district, particularly in industrial areas and by street vendors. He inquires about the number of enforcement cameras installed, especially those funded by his office. Commissioner Lojan provides some information and suggests exploring mobile cameras as a potential solution.

  • Salamanca has allocated $558,000 for cameras in the last four years
  • DSNY has 331 cameras installed citywide, with 18 in Salamanca's district
  • Lojan suggests exploring mobile cameras as a deterrent for illegal dumping
  • Salamanca expresses concern that the number of cameras in his district seems low given the funding provided
  • DSNY agrees to confirm and reaffirm the numbers of installed cameras

And then finally, I was talking to my colleague here about illegal the the cameras for illegal dumping.
1:40:13
I know that more than half of my I have a big chunk of my district that's industrial and therefore we're having issues with illegal dumping, especially in the Hunts Point side of the community.
1:40:24
We're also seeing a lot of illegal dumping on bids where we have individuals we have many migrants that are selling produce at end of what we call end of life produce.
1:40:36
If you don't sell it in a day or two, you have to you have to get rid of it.
1:40:39
And unfortunately, we're having issues in certain parts of bids like the Third Avenue bid where they're finding locations and they're literally just dumping their their produce that they cannot sell.
1:40:50
I know that my office, in the last four years, has allocated $558,000 to sanitation for cameras.
1:41:00
Can you tell me how many cameras we have in the borough of The Bronx and how many cameras we have in my district?
Javier Lojan
1:41:13
I'd have to in the interest of time, I'm trying to get that for you.
1:41:16
But one of the things I do wanna say that we can work through is we're exploring the use of the mobile cameras.
1:41:27
Right now we have very limited amounts, but I think that may work as a deterrent that we can try and see if that works in the area that you mentioned.
1:41:36
So we bring out, it's a mobile camera.
1:41:40
The only limitation is the amount of time it could stay up with the power because it's not tied to an existing power supply.
1:41:47
But I think that's one of the areas we can look to see if it's effective as a deterrent or maybe finding you know where who's dumping these these materials that you're mentioning.
1:41:57
And I'm sorry we'd have to get back to you on the the actual camera breakdown.
Rafael Salamanca
1:42:01
Alright.
1:42:02
Do you have a total number amount of how many cameras you have installed in the entire city of New York?
Javier Lojan
1:42:08
Yeah.
1:42:08
It's 331.
Rafael Salamanca
1:42:09
Three hundred and?
Javier Lojan
1:42:10
And 30 one.
Rafael Salamanca
1:42:11
And can you at least, off the top of head, you know how many are in the borough of The Bronx?
Pedro Suarez
1:42:20
Just while we're looking for
Joshua Goodman
1:42:21
that council member, I just want to say, your cameras have been so productive.
1:42:25
I think you know that you're we post social media video from them all the time and it's your all the time the enforcement team is sending videos.
1:42:32
They're from the ones in your district.
Javier Lojan
1:42:37
It's 18 installed in your district.
1:42:40
In your district, 18 cameras.
1:42:42
18?
1:42:42
Yeah.
Rafael Salamanca
1:42:43
We'll we'll talk Monday.
1:42:45
I think I I I should have more than 18 cameras installed in my console district.
1:42:51
Yeah.
1:42:53
Yeah.
1:42:53
Alright.
1:42:54
Ortat, well, we we've allocated almost half a million dollars for them.
1:42:58
I think I should have more than eight cameras, you know, installed in
Javier Lojan
1:43:00
the Okay.
1:43:00
We'll confirm that and just get reaffirm the numbers in
Rafael Salamanca
1:43:03
a Okay.
