Council members Kevin Riley, Chi Ossé, and Crystal Hudson engage in a discussion with Dash Henley from the Department of Transportation regarding the timeline for redesigning Atlantic Avenue. The council members express frustration with the proposed 6-10 year timeline, emphasizing the need for quicker improvements due to safety concerns.

  • Council Member Riley describes Atlantic Avenue as unsafe and looking like "Gotham City," urging for faster implementation of improvements.
  • Council Member Ossé requests a detailed breakdown of the 6-10 year timeline to understand potential areas for expediting the process.
  • DOT representative Dash Henley acknowledges the frustration and commits to providing more detailed information on the project timeline and scope.

That is a dope name for someone that work at DOT.
1:42:40
Thank you so much council member Hudson Osei for your advocacy.
1:42:44
I I too have a a neighborhood plan in my district coming along and I look forward to you know this plan looking at so much of the positivity that's coming to your community.
1:42:55
But just wanted to address a comment from council member Hudson dash five to ten years for redesign for Atlantic Avenue is really ridiculous.
1:43:07
I think as a city we take too long to do a lot of these projects that we're advocating for.
1:43:13
I know it's not you but if you could kind of bring back this frustration to the administration and let them know it needs to be faster.
1:43:19
There has been death that occurred on Atlantic Avenue due to it being unsafe.
1:43:25
If you are if you're there it looks like Gotham City a lot of the times.
1:43:28
It's really dark and gloomy.
1:43:30
So please we would like if you guys could kind of expedite that a little bit more.
1:43:35
Yes.
1:43:36
Go ahead.
Chi A. Ossé
1:43:37
Kitty.
1:43:38
He he's the chair is really dogging our community a little bit.
1:43:41
He's like, Gotham City, darkened.
1:43:44
What did you say earlier?
1:43:45
Darkened, whatever.
Crystal Hudson
1:43:46
Kitty We're come to your your hearing for your results.
Chi A. Ossé
1:43:48
Right, I know.
1:43:49
I'm excited to learn all about it.
1:43:52
Can you walk us through those six to ten years, seven to ten years, in terms of what work I know we have some time, but if you can give us as much information of why that takes that long and maybe what the bulk of that length consists of, I think that would be really helpful for us.
Dash Henley
1:44:12
Right.
1:44:13
Definitely.
1:44:13
I think and we share the frustration with you know, construction timelines, we always want to do as much good work as possible as quickly as possible too.
1:44:22
So I can definitely take back that frustration.
1:44:26
And I think we can get you more details.
1:44:29
I don't know if it's the same timeline as we were saying before with two weeks or something like that, in terms of laying out in clearer detail potential timelines.
1:44:39
I just don't want to commit to a shorter timeline if we don't have a good idea of the scope and both the geography and the extent of the work.
1:44:49
That's sort of the full extent of potential projects.
1:44:56
But that's definitely something that we can work on to get you a little more laid out, like bullet points
Chi A. Ossé
1:45:02
Yeah, think getting you don't have to give it to us right now, obviously.
1:45:05
But I think just getting that information would be really helpful for us as legislators, as people who work for the city, to see what does not need to exist within that six to ten year timeline.
1:45:19
Whether there are antiquated policies that exist that are holding you back, whether there's long public review procedures that are holding this from coming into fruition.
1:45:32
We'd love to see where we can cut that back.
1:45:35
Looking forward to getting some more information about that overall timeline.
1:45:40
Thank you chair.
Kevin Riley
1:45:41
Thank you.
1:45:43
There being no other members of the council that are questioning this panel, this panel is excused.
