Council Member Ossé inquires about plans for improvements to Atlantic Avenue further east from the AAMUP project area, particularly under the Long Island Railroad elevated structure.

  • DOT officials acknowledge the complexity of the area under the Long Island Railroad structure.
  • The study area for potential improvements extends as far east as Nostrand Avenue, with recognition of the challenging block from Bedford to Nostrand.
  • Officials mention the possibility of working with MTA on lighting issues in the area, both for city-owned portions and MTA-owned sections.
  • The discussion reveals the need for careful planning and coordination between multiple agencies to address improvements in this complex urban environment.

I'll call Elon Musk to get the Doge involved.
1:36:16
I'm kidding.
1:36:19
Some of my constituents have mentioned that Atlantic Avenue needs improvements further east from the AIM UP project area, particularly under the Long Island Railroad elevated structure.

Are there improvements planned for Atlantic Avenue further east in my district?

So in terms of that, I think under the Long Island Railroad is a complicated structure, a complicated location all of that.
1:36:48
I think we are trying to look at as part of the study, what we can do within the study area of AMUP as far east as Nostrind, and understanding that that block from Bedford to Nostrind is a little wonky because the trains come up there.
1:37:07
So that's something that we can take a closer look at.
1:37:09
It's not a spot that we think would be a good plaza or something like that.

Okay.
Dash Henley
1:37:15
Even though we do it in other areas.
1:37:18
But we understand that we can try to see what can be done there in the future.
1:37:22
And that's something else where we can work with the MTA on lighting issues, whether it's city owned portion or the MTA portion and seeing what can be improved there.

Thank you.
