Council Member Sanchez inquires about the transition from initial ARC response to HPD's Emergency Housing Services (EHS) and the roles of EHS staff. Deputy Commissioner Santiago and Assistant Commissioner Kim explain the process and staff responsibilities.
- Residents are advised by ARC to contact EHS for registration and additional services beyond the initial period
- EHS staff are primarily intake specialists focused on qualifying families for services
- The main task is to confirm that households were residing at the affected location
- At this stage, EHS staff are not providing case management services

Okay, thank you.
1:25:18
Okay, so continuing the resident experience, they have now spoken with they've registered with ARC, they have been placed in a hotel, day two is here, and they're being told they have to leave.
1:25:30
What is their experience?
1:25:32
Who are they speaking to at emergency housing services?
1:25:35
What are the roles of the staff at EHS?
1:25:39
You.
1:25:39
Titles roles.
AnnMarie Santiago
1:25:40
So they shouldn't be being told that they have to leave, they should be being advised by the American Red Cross to contact the emergency housing services for, to register for additional services, right, beyond that initial period.
1:25:57
Again, once the household contacts us, our goal is to work with them to get the documentation we need to show that they're eligible for services.
1:26:08
And our team works very extensively with households to try and obtain that documentation.
1:26:14
And I went through some of the examples of the type of documentation we can accept.
Pierina Ana Sanchez
1:26:19
What are the titles and roles of the emergency housing staff?
1:26:24
Are these social workers?
1:26:25
Are these case managers?
1:26:26
What are their titles?
AnnMarie Santiago
1:26:27
At this point they're intake specialists, right.
1:26:30
They're really just trying to qualify the family.
1:26:33
They're not doing case management at that moment.
Pierina Ana Sanchez
1:26:36
And can you give us a rundown of what they are trying to qualify the families for?
AnnMarie Santiago
1:26:41
Again just to confirm that they are a household from that location, that was residing at that location.
Pierina Ana Sanchez
1:26:49
Sure, thank you.
1:26:50
So what happens, what services or connections does EHS provide, EHS staff provide for these families?
