Cordelia Veve from the NYC Department of Education explains how arts education data reporting varies by grade level. She highlights the differences in reporting methods and state recommendations for different grade ranges.

  • K-6 experience doesn't have the same STARS reporting as 7-12 grades
  • ARTS survey is used to understand participation rates for K-6
  • STARS data is used for 7-12 participation rates due to graduation requirements and credit assignments
  • State recommendations differ by grade level

So it depends on the grade level because reporting happens in different ways at different grade levels.
1:02:55
Also the recommendations from the state differ by grade level, right?
1:02:59
So when we're talking about the K through six experience, that doesn't have a hard and fast reporting into STARS in the same way that our seven to eight and nine through 12 reporting happens.
1:03:15
And so the ARTS survey really does serve as our way of understanding the participation rates of students by school and also by district for K through six.
1:03:26
You can look at STARS data to see the participation rates for students in the seven through 12 range because those are graduation requirements and assigned to credits.

Have you ever had to visit a school to go and make some adjustments to the programming?
