Council Member Lee seeks to clarify which agency is ultimately responsible for overseeing and enforcing website accessibility compliance across city agencies. The discussion reveals some ambiguity in the current system.

  • The Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI) creates accessible templates for city agency websites
  • Individual agencies are responsible for ensuring the accessibility of their own content
  • MOPD is confirmed not to be the agency responsible for overseeing compliance
  • Council Member Lee expresses concern about potential resource implications if a small agency like MOPD were responsible
  • The exact agency responsible for overall oversight and accountability remains unclear, with a request for follow-up information

And then ultimately, which agency is in charge of overseeing that each of these websites are compliant or that they're up to whatever the regulations are.
0:21:28
And the reason why I ask that is because if it is moped, we all know that they have a super, super tiny, tiny budget.
0:21:36
My, she's laughing because she knows it.
0:21:38
We've talked about this before.
0:21:39
It is literally I think one of the smallest budgets that I've seen at least in the city compared to different city agencies.
0:21:47
I think at this point it's around $400,000 and I think that if I'm hoping that that does not fall on you guys, but if it does we need to make sure that you have the resources to be able to oversee the compliance of a lot of these websites.
0:22:03
So I just wanted to hear from you about So

the Office of Technology and Innovation creates an accessible template.
0:22:12
And I can't speak in detail about this, but in general they create what should be an accessible template for, and I don't remember the name of it, for all city agency websites who use that template.
0:22:25
But agencies are responsible for their own content that they post on that website.
0:22:32
So that's what the DIO program is about, is making sure that the content that's posted on the website and any changes that someone might make, right, that the website is still gonna be accessible and the content there is gonna be accessible.
0:22:47
So it falls on so OTI is giving the tools and then the individual agencies are responsible for making sure that the content is accessible.
Linda Lee
0:22:58
Okay and are they the ones also that are holding agencies accountable if they're not in compliance?
Emily Sweet
0:23:05
So is OTI?
0:23:08
Yes.
0:23:12
I think that's a question for OTI.
Linda Lee
0:23:14
Okay.
0:23:15
Yeah.
0:23:15
Basically I guess what I'm trying to get at is I just want to know which agency is in charge of overseeing everything and in you know keeping folks accountable.
Emily Sweet
0:23:23
Right, it's not MOPD.
0:23:24
It's not MOPD.
0:23:26
Okay.
0:23:27
Yeah.
0:23:27
Good
Linda Lee
0:23:29
to know.
0:23:30
Okay.
0:23:31
So hopefully we'll figure that out.
0:23:32
If you could get back to us on that though, that would be great.
0:23:34
Sure.
0:23:34
If you have the answer.
0:23:37
Okay.
0:23:37
So moving on to our the next question.
