Council Member Gale A. Brewer engages in a Q&A session with CUNY Reconnect's Dzelika Daniel, focusing on the details of the proposed MetroCard program for CUNY students and inquiring about childcare services at CUNY institutions. The discussion covers the extent of MetroCard coverage, the potential for promoting half-fare programs, and the availability of childcare services on CUNY campuses.
- The proposed MetroCard for CUNY students would be a full 7-day unlimited ride card.
- Brewer suggests pushing for greater utilization of existing half-fare programs.
- CUNY is actively working on recruiting for their childcare centers and bridging knowledge gaps about these services.

Thank you.

Just quickly, on the MetroCard, that will be to go home and to come to school, so it'll be round trip.
0:57:01
How many trips are we getting on the MetroCard?
0:57:14
So it's like you can go back and forth for seven days?
0:57:18
Yes.
0:57:18
Okay.
0:57:19
The other question I have is, does it make more sense to push the half fare?
0:57:24
I don't think a lot of people know about it.
0:57:25
It's not that your students are unlike the general public because not a lot of people are signing up for it.
0:57:32
It's not fully, utilized by those who could be using it.
0:57:38
So I just think that, that would be something to push more, suggestion.
0:57:43
I'm also just one small little issue is child care as a barrier.
0:57:47
Is that something that we're both fixated 13687?
0:57:52
But is there something that is also a barrier, lack of childcare?
0:57:58
So at CUNY, we have childcare centers distributed.
0:58:00
No.
0:58:01
I know you do, but they're often booked.
0:58:02
That's what I was asking.
0:58:35
Okay.
0:58:35
Thank you.

It's the full 34 unlimited ride that covers the whole week, so it would cover seven days for students who have weekend classes study
0:58:03
We're actively doing some recruitment with our child care centers to build enrollment not only on the academic side to get students into the colleges, but also working with them to bridge the child care knowledge and make sure that they're aware that the childcare centers exist and doing some direct recruitment at the colleges as well as a university based fair that is planned for the fall.
0:58:26
So you don't find it's a barrier then?
0:58:29
No.
0:58:29
Not unless this childcare center particularly is full of that age group, but I don't believe it to be a barrier.
