CUNY representatives outline their strategies for implementing fee waivers, transportation assistance, and the Fresh Start program, highlighting the ease or challenges associated with each initiative.

  • Fee waivers are described as an 'easy lift' due to existing mechanisms
  • Transportation card distribution would be based on criteria and prioritization, depending on funding
  • The Fresh Start program would complement the existing Reconnect program
  • Transportation assistance is identified as the most challenging but not insurmountable initiative
  • Implementation would involve scaling up existing models used in ACE and ASAP programs

So what would be your next steps in considering the implementation of each of these three ideas?
Reine Sarmiento
0:55:24
So the fee waivers would be an easy lift for us because we have the mechanism already to do that.
0:55:34
We would be working with our Office of Budget and Finance to be able to distribute those, the transportation cards based on any type of criteria depending on how much we get and prioritizing accordingly.
0:55:52
So that is the and then the Fresh Start it will complement Reconnect reconnect because that's what we currently do now is to pay off balances.
0:56:03
So probably the one that would be the most challenging but not insurmountable is the transportation.
0:56:14
As we currently do this for a small subset of students in ACE and ASAP and we would just need to scale that model up.
