Thank you chair Stevens.
3:43:22
Just want to highlight a few things around young people.
3:43:27
The conversation has to start as young as elementary school.
3:43:31
So, by the time we get to middle school, we've already lost a lot of our young people.
3:43:37
And, a lot of our young people, and that's not on you as well, New York City Public School has to play a part.
3:43:41
When students are chronically absent, there has to be an outreach and I've said that so many times.
3:43:46
Attendance teachers need to be working with every single entity in that building to make sure we're providing all the resources for that young person to find out why are you absent more than ten days.
3:43:58
And, that should have automatically generated a four zero seven, so I don't know there's a crack in the system somewhere that we're gonna have to fix because I can't take it when I'm losing losing young people on both sides.
3:44:09
Once you picked up the gun I've lost you.
3:44:11
Once you passed away I've also lost you, right?
3:44:13
So we wanna make sure that that's all hands on deck with you come in and meet New York City public schools halfway.
3:44:20
So of course go ahead commissioner.
Keith Howard
3:44:22
No, absolutely I agree with what you want to understand.
3:44:24
We work very closely with Project Pivot And one of our successful programs have been our YES program, our youth enrichment services program.
3:44:34
Mhmm.
3:44:34
Where we work with public schools to be in the 50 schools with the highest level of incidents.
3:44:40
So would love to show you exactly what list that is.
3:44:45
Read you into what our program motto is to be able to resolve not only conflicts, but other issues that are happening in the school in partnership with public schools.
Rita C. Joseph
3:44:53
I agree.
3:44:54
But, I also had an issue with project PIPET in my district.
3:44:56
So I'm gonna put it here and I'm gonna put it tomorrow when I have my executive budget hearing.
3:45:00
It took too long for them to respond to safe passages in my district.
3:45:06
I was the one with my jacket on outside working with NYPD to make sure we move we're moving kids along, but we don't want to just move them along, right?
3:45:14
Move them along with an alternative.
3:45:16
Young person moving along, but here's a program for after school.
3:45:20
Here's a summer job.
3:45:21
Here's something.
3:45:22
When we move them along we have to have a plan, we can't just move them along to move them along.
3:45:27
So, it has to be more comprehensive as we I'll sit with you, Chair Stevens, you know I'm always here to collaborate because we have custody of all New York City kids.
3:45:35
Right, Chair Stevens?
3:45:36
So, we wanna work in collaboration to make sure we're getting the young people their resources as much as possible.
