Council Member Williams inquires about plans to increase Child Protection Specialist (CPS) salaries. Commissioner Dannhauser explains current salary structures and career progression opportunities for CPS workers.
- CPS salaries are part of a collective bargaining agreement that includes salary increases
- Additional salary bumps are provided at certain career milestones (e.g., six months)
- Career progression opportunities include pursuing master's degrees and becoming supervisors
- ACS offers additional pay for CPS workers who become peer mentors
- The agency continues to explore ways to invest in and support long-term CPS workers

Have you also assessed like increasing their salaries?
1:16:32
I know this has come up in like previous budget hearings but or just hearings in general but because this is a budget hearing like is there any plans to increase their salaries?
Jess Dannhauser

So they're part of the collective bargaining agreement that has increased their salaries.
1:16:48
They have along the way around six months they get an additional bump and so we make sure that they continue to grow in that role.
1:16:58
You know one thing I'd always like to look at, we've got some, many CPS go back to school, they get their masters, they become a supervisor and they move in that trajectory.
1:17:08
We have some CPS who this is their calling to do the direct work for their entire career.
1:17:15
We're always looking at ways in which we can support them and so we pay them an additional for becoming a peer mentor.
1:17:23
So always trying to find ways to invest in all of our CPS, in particular the CPS who stay in this work for decades and are so valuable to our city.
