Commissioner Dannhauser discusses the historical trends in ACS caseloads and the efforts made to manage them effectively. He highlights significant improvements over time and recent challenges.

  • Caseloads have decreased from 20 in 2005 to the current 7.9 average
  • A hiring freeze during COVID led to a temporary increase in caseloads in early 2022
  • OMB support allowed for expanded hiring classes, helping to reduce caseloads
  • ACS now conducts classes for 150 new Child Protective Specialists four times a year

And is 7.9 about average?
1:39:14
Has it been higher, lower?
Jess Dannhauser
1:39:16
So we're coming off two years ago it was 9.9.
1:39:21
When I first got to ACS in 02/2005 it was 20.
1:39:26
So there's been a consistent concerted effort by each administration, particularly this one, to make sure that there is the active staff that are needed.
1:39:35
I will say that there was a, at the end of the last administration there was a hiring freeze during COVID.
1:39:41
So when we came on the caseloads began to rise early in 2022.
1:39:47
OMB has been very supportive of us.
1:39:49
We expanded the classes to about 150 new CPS.
1:39:54
We have classes four times a year and that allowed us to catch up and get the caseloads back.
