Council Member Salaam inquires about a projected budget decrease for the Studio Museum of Harlem, and Commissioner Cumbo and General Counsel Polivy provide clarification on the funding situation.

  • Salaam notes a projected budget decrease of nearly $70,000 for the Studio Museum of Harlem from FY2025 to FY2026
  • Cumbo explains that as part of the Cultural Institutions Group, the Studio Museum receives continuous baseline funding without reduction
  • Polivy clarifies that the apparent decrease is due to comparing FY '25 actuals with the FY '26 executive budget, which doesn't yet include member items and one-time additions

The Studio Museum of Harlem sees projected sees a projected budget decrease of nearly 70,000 from fiscal year twenty twenty five to fiscal year twenty twenty six.

And I wanted to know what explains this reduction and what steps are being taken to ensure the stability of one of Harlem's flagship cultural institutions.
Lauri Cumbo

I will have to look further into your question because the Studio Museum in Harlem is part of the cultural institutions group and they receive a baseline award that is continuous year after year without reduction.
2:53:22
So perhaps General Counsel Palaby can expand on that.
Lance Polivy

I think the issue is that we're comparing the FY '25 actuals to the FY '26 executive budget which doesn't yet include member items, one time ads at adoption, they they should not be receiving a $60,000 reduction in expense funding.
