Commissioner Diane Savino confirms SEIU 32BJ's stance on retaining labor standards and then asks Ben Weinberg of Citizens Union to clarify his position on ULURP reform. Weinberg reiterates that Citizens Union's main point is preserving the City Council's final authority on land use decisions, anticipating proposals might suggest otherwise.

  • Weinberg clarifies Citizens Union is not commenting on specific ULURP process changes, but fundamentally opposes shifting final legislative power away from the Council.

I I do.
2:09:28
Just brief so first, to the young lady from 32 Beach, I just wanna be clear.
2:09:32
You're suggesting that in the EULAR process, whatever reforms are made, we retain the protection for labor standards and prevailing wage, etcetera, and all of those things.
2:09:40
And I'm assuming the carpenters and the laborers and everybody agrees with that concept.
Sara Penenberg
2:09:43
Yes.
Diane Savino
2:09:45
Okay.
2:09:45
Ben, I'm somewhat confused.
2:09:46
Yes.
2:09:47
So are you suggesting we keep the Euler process the way it is?
2:09:50
We upend it?
2:09:51
I and maybe I didn't understand, but I could not quite follow what you were recommending.
Ben Weinberg
2:09:56
I'm sorry if I, was unclear.
2:09:58
We are not opining about the initial, phases of the euro process, only about the question of who has the final say over over land use matters, whether it is the city council as the legislative body or any other part of city government, as this is a maybe a kind of, like, a preemptive, opinion to some of the opinions we have heard around the discussion before this, hearing and probably you will hear later on about shifting the final decision making power on on land use matters from the city council to the executive.
Diane Savino
2:10:29
So you're anticipating
Ben Weinberg
2:10:31
In this event.
2:10:31
Always good to anticipate.
