The New York City Mayor's Office of Asylum Seeker Operations emphasizes ensuring safe accommodations for those requiring overnight shelter, addressing safety concerns as needed.

  • The office operates waiting rooms for overnight stays to ensure safety.
  • Immediate action is taken when unsafe accommodations are identified, with interventions from FDNY and DOB.
  • Individuals are redirected to safe locations such as Saint Brigitte or the arrival center for shelter.

Some individuals have a number that's like 17,005 1000?
1:13:24
Are those individuals?
1:13:26
Are you when they leave the shelter system, are you you say only 24% have reapplied, but are you tracking, where they're going, how many actual people are being placed, I mean, you have a 179,000 people that have come through to the city.
1:13:44
55,000 notices recently, but only 24% have reapplied.
1:13:49
I mean, it's a it's a disparity.
1:13:51
And so we're trying to figure out where these individuals are going, and then we present actual people who are going through it earlier today, and yet I'm not sure where the disconnect is happening between listening to the stories and then really understanding where these individuals are going.
1:14:07
They're cramden commercial basements.
1:14:08
They're in the subway.
1:14:09
They're sleeping in Tompkins Square Park Across the street hoping hoping that they get called, but they're not.
1:14:15
So how how are you all dealing with that?
1:14:17
With those disparities and numbers and the number of people that we actually see going through it?
1:14:21
Predominantly black and brown people.
1:14:23
Thank you.

Madame CHAIR FOR THE TIME.

1:14:28
SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE HAS A SAFE PLACE TO BE OVERNIGHT and so we have our waiting rooms where people can be overnight.
1:14:37
If there is unsafe places that people are staying.
1:14:42
You know, our system did our job did its job the last couple days when we noticed unsafe places where people were staying are FDNY, DOB got involved immediately, and we connected people to either Saint Brigitte or to the arrival center depending on where they were to make sure that they had a safe place to go indoors.
