Addressing noise concerns for residential buildings near stadiums

Council Member Kevin Riley raises concerns about noise cancellation and potential sleep disruption for residents living in the new buildings adjacent to two stadiums. Ethan Goodman from Fox Rothchild addresses these concerns by explaining the measures taken to mitigate noise issues.

  • An environmental impact statement was conducted, including extensive noise monitoring
  • E-designation regulations require a minimum amount of window wall attenuation in residential windows
  • The stadium is designed to keep noise internal, minimizing leakage
  • Other noise sources, such as trains and planes, were also considered in the design
  • All units will be designed to maintain acceptable interior noise levels

Lastly, this is a beautiful residential building, but it's adjacent to a stadium, 2 stadiums.
2:45:03
I'm thinking about noise cancellations and affecting anyone's sleep patterns.
2:45:08
Okay?
2:45:08
You just go into that a little bit more into that for me.
Ethan Goodman
2:45:12
Sure.
2:45:13
You you you are correct.
2:45:14
It's not just the stadium, but anybody who's been a met fan for any number of years knows there's other stuff going on in the area too.
2:45:21
So as as part of our extensive environmental impact statement here, we did noise monitoring throughout to determine existing levels where new residences would be built.
2:45:32
And I believe that what emerged from that is certain environmental regulations, e designation regulations.
2:45:39
That require a certain minimum amount of window wall attenuation in the residential windows.
2:45:44
So depending if you're, you know, if you're facing the subway, facing south, is a little bit of a higher level than if you're facing something that's not not necessarily as close to one of those high noise generators.
2:45:54
With respect to the stadium proper, the goal and Jennifer can speak more about it.
2:45:59
The goal of the stadium is largely to keep a lot of that noise inside and internal to the stadium.
2:46:04
So we actually don't anticipate as much in the way of leakage of noise from there.
2:46:08
It's really more about the train, the planes, other things that are going on to the neighborhood.
2:46:14
But rest assured that all of these units will be designed so that they maintain acceptable interior noise levels.
Kevin Riley
2:46:20
Okay.
2:46:21
Thank you.
