The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) does not directly receive data from scheduling software companies, but examines data in employers' systems when investigating complaints to determine compliance with labor laws.
- The goal is to use software to prevent labor violations from occurring
- Council Member Amanda Farías suggests exploring a free or low-cost municipal scheduling system in the future
- This could potentially reach more people than private software options
- It could be a future budget request from DCWP

And are we trying to aggregate any of that data for analysis?
0:47:47
Or for violations or to help maybe match complaints to any of the maybe software.
Elizabeth Wagner

We wouldn't get the data from the software companies in that way.
0:47:59
However, you know, if we get a complaint that we're then investigating, you know, part of what this would ensure is that all of the data points that we're looking for to show compliance or noncompliance in our analytics are in the software systems that employers are using, which will facilitate us being able to see whether things went wrong or not.
0:48:19
That said part of what we wanna do with this is ensure that there are no victims in the first place.
0:48:24
There are no violations in the first place in using software to to help achieve that?

Justin, this dialogue alone, I I would my gut is to say, like, forward thinking, we should kind of look towards having a municipality run system.
0:48:38
Maybe that's free or lower cost that people can opt into.
0:48:43
That could definitely be a future budget ask, as our chair has mentioned, of making sure we may we we have these budget asks that go in from the agency.
0:48:51
I I think most of us know even for something simple.
0:48:54
That's top of mind right now from what we recently did with filing taxes.
0:48:58
The free option that's maybe has a few more notches that you have to fill out is more cost efficient and reaches more people pool than maybe some of the larger options that maybe don't necessarily always connect for folks.
0:49:10
So I would encourage you folks to think about that.
0:49:13
In the future.
