Council Member Althea V. Stevens inquires about DYCD's process for gathering feedback from LGBTQ+ youth in their programs and how this feedback is used to drive policy and programmatic changes. DYCD representatives explain their complaint process and information dissemination methods.
- Youth can file complaints through 311, which are then followed up by DYCD directly
- Information about the complaint process is required to be posted in conspicuous areas in all programs
- DYCD recently included the complaint process information in intake packet handbooks given to youth entering programs
- Program managers check for posted information during site visits as part of their evaluation process

Okay.
1:06:29
How does the USC gather feedback from LGBT youth that are experienced within their programs if if it's funded, and how often does feedback use to drive policy and programmatic change?
UNKNOWN
1:06:43
So if if a youth within the d y c d system has a complaint, there's a complaint process that they can follow that would allow them to speak directly.
Steven Gordon

Can you
Althea V. Stevens
1:06:52
talk a little bit about what that process looks like?
UNKNOWN
1:06:55
Mhmm.
1:06:55
It it it requires them to call 311.
1:07:00
And then through 311, they're connected to our unit.
1:07:03
And we would follow-up with that youth directly, personally, to hear the story.
1:07:10
And try to, you know, resolve the issue that they may have had with their provider.
Althea V. Stevens
1:07:15
I didn't know that it required them to come through online.
1:07:18
How do you get that information out to the young people to to to have that
UNKNOWN
1:07:23
in all of the programs?
1:07:25
Whether it's residential programs or drop in centers.
1:07:28
Mhmm.
1:07:29
There are flyers that are required to be posted in conspicuous areas that has the information to how to reach out to us if they have a complaint.
1:07:39
And every time one of our program managers make a site visit, they're required to check and make sure that that poster is posted in a conspicuous area.
1:07:48
It's part of their evaluation process.
Althea V. Stevens
1:07:50
Yeah.
1:07:51
We we ever thought about having our part of the intake process to give that information out?
UNKNOWN
1:07:56
Actually, we recently, maybe about 6 months ago, required that that flyer be included in the handbooks that are handed out to youth when they enter into the programs.
1:08:07
So it's part of the intake packet information that they take away from the intake.
