Council Member Mercedes Narcisse inquires about FDNY's coordination with the Department of Transportation (DOT) regarding street design and its impact on emergency vehicle response times. Chief Michael Fields responds:

  • FDNY does communicate with DOT about difficulties they encounter.
  • The final decisions on street lights and designs are made by the DOT commissioner.
  • FDNY receives reports from DOT about new construction in areas.
  • The council member raises specific concerns about traffic congestion in her district, particularly on Nap Street, affecting ambulance access.
  • Chief Fields acknowledges receiving reports on new construction but is not familiar with the specific Nap Street issue.
  • The exchange highlights the need for better communication between FDNY and DOT to address emergency vehicle access issues in street design and construction projects.

In respect to that particular issue, I'm not familiar with the Nap Street area in that one, so I can't attest to being a part of that or receiving a report on that.
Mercedes Narcisse
