Sorry.
3:00:21
I was having trouble.
3:00:22
I'm muting myself.
3:00:23
Thank you.
3:00:25
I'm Claire Mifflin, executive director from the Center For Zero Waste Design.
3:00:28
We're a nonprofit that develops research, advocacy campaigns, and policy tools for buildings and the city to achieve zero waste.
3:00:36
We've been advocating for waste containerization since 2017 with the zero waste design guidelines, and we provided strategies to do that in our advocacy campaign, Put Waste TO Work, which called on the incoming Adams administration to come up with a comprehensive plan to reduce waste, reach zero waste goals, containerize waste to improve quality of life, and to support composting to ensure city soils are made healthy with compost.
3:01:03
So we're really frustrated that Department of Sanitation haven't put together a comprehensive plan at all, leaving city council to try and add bills to ensure that zero waste and environmental justice goals and composting is all happening.
3:01:17
And we really appreciate city council for that, but we see this huge lack.
3:01:22
There's been a huge lack of engagement with stakeholders even across city agencies, and we can't have a successful waste containerization plan without considering how can we reduce the amount of waste we produce to start with?
3:01:34
How can we make it better for streetscapes?
3:01:36
How can we make it easier for the bids and the small business owners and everyone trying to keep our city clean?
3:01:42
We recently released a report called on containerization.
3:01:46
We had a panel discussion.
3:01:47
It went in detail about better ways that we can containerize all waste and recycling and food scraps so we can get to zero waste goals and improve streetscapes.
3:01:57
But I don't know if it's even being considered by the administration because there's such a lack of, collaboration.
3:02:04
So this suggests how containerizing waste cannot just hide the trash and help for littering rats, but it can improve labor, improve streetscapes, reduce the burdens on business bids and building owners.
3:02:15
So we think the huge investment in a waste containerization plan just for trash that's not really thought through is short sighted.
3:02:22
Thank you.
3:02:22
And we're against all the bills for paying waste containerization.
3:02:26
We're moving on to Sorry.
