Council Member Hudson inquires about the coordination between NYC Aging and NYCHA for providing emergency support to vulnerable older residents, particularly those with medical conditions impacted by apartment repairs. NYC Aging representatives explain their approach to addressing these situations.
- OAC program staff assist clients with coordinating support and making repair tickets when needed
- OAC staff often help residents navigate the repair request process with NYCHA
- OAC directors and staff act as advocates for residents, escalating serious issues to NYCHA when necessary
- While NYC Aging's primary role is managing the OAC, they can work with NYCHA to address serious client issues outside of the center
