Council Member Ariola asks about the most common causes of brush fires in parks. Chief Esposito explains the challenges in determining exact causes and lists potential sources of ignition.

  • Bureau of Fire Investigation examines each fire to determine the cause
  • Exact causes are often difficult to determine due to lack of witnesses or cameras
  • Potential causes include careless smoking, sparks from nearby train lines, and overhead wires
  • Dry conditions during drought periods increase fire risk from various sources
