Council Member Hudson engages in a detailed discussion about the potential development of the 510 Claremont Avenue site, emphasizing collaboration and seeking specifics on the feasibility study for relocation.
- Hudson stresses the council members' interest in collaboration and mitigating impacts on sensitive communities within the Department of Education.
- Platkin explains that feasibility of relocation involves finding alternate sites for school facility uses, which could mean relocating to another city-owned site or acquiring a new site.
- Alex Sommer from DCP adds that they're assessing physical constraints, co-location possibilities, loading and access needs, and geographical constraints for potential relocation.

Thank you for that.

I do want to just state for the record that council member Osei and I have been very clear that we are interested in collaboration and partnering with the administration on redeveloping these sites.
0:49:46
We have no interest in adversely impacting sensitive communities within the Department of Education.
0:49:54
But I do think if we can work together to find a way to mitigate those impacts and build more affordable housing, particularly including for the families whose students might be attending those schools, then that's certainly a goal that I think we all share.
0:50:12
And so can you just share what feasibility of location means and what that looks like and what are those steps specifically that you're taking?
Sarit Platkin
0:50:25
Yeah, so thanks for that question, asking a little bit more about that.
0:50:29
Essentially as noted that this is a very large site, has active uses on-site.
0:50:36
Potentially relocating those uses from the site could you know be challenging.
0:50:42
We're looking for alternate sites for those school facility uses in the nearby area.
0:50:48
That could mean locating them on another city on-site.
0:50:52
It could mean acquiring a site.
0:50:55
All of this requires a lot of time and due diligence and potentially cost and there's a lot to assess to kind of consider the overall project scope and timeline.
Alex Sommer

If I just add to that, we're working closely with the administration to look through those sites and helping identify physical constraints and needs.
0:51:16
So for example, can it be co located?
0:51:19
What are the loading and access needs?
0:51:21
Are there geographical constraints to relocating within the neighborhood?
0:51:26
And those are all part of the considerations of any potential relocation.
0:51:29
We've heard that there may be concerns about creating swing space.
0:51:33
So would it have to be permanent relocation?
0:51:35
Those are the types of things that we're working through.
0:51:38
And exactly like you said, want to be as collaborative as possible for identifying the site for affordable housing.

Thank you.
